New York restaurant owners are moving into a new chapter with Chinese investors, with some moving into the same space as their American counterparts.
The move comes after a wave of Chinese investment in the New York area hit, bringing the total number of Chinese investors in the restaurant industry to about 10.
It has prompted many restaurateurs in New York and across the US to look for ways to stay relevant while adapting to a changing world.
One of those restaurants is Chinese chain China Food Restaurant Group, which opened in Manhattan in February.
Owner David Chen, from China, says the Chinese owners have changed his menu and menu design, and the company’s future plans are in the balance.
The restaurant’s menu changes often, but its focus remains on its traditional Chinese fare and the quality of its food.
The owner said the Chinese investors are coming into the restaurant with a vision to build a global brand, and that’s why they’re looking for local and regional food.
He said his restaurant, which is owned by a local family, was already well established in the area, but had to get into the business to be successful.
“When I was young, we had no money,” he said.
“We didn’t have a place to go to.
I wanted to build the restaurant in my backyard.”
Mr Chen said his customers wanted to see a different kind of dining experience.
“They want something different,” he explained.
“I’ve had customers come in from all over the world and say, ‘I don’t know how I could afford this, but I just want to try it.'”
He said he’s also seeing Chinese visitors from other countries visiting the restaurant.
“It’s not about going to China for the food, it’s about the environment and the people, and it’s a very beautiful city, and I’m excited to go there and share that experience with them.”
He said it’s been an amazing experience for his customers, and he’s grateful for the opportunity.
“The Chinese have been very nice and welcoming,” he added.
“Now we have the chance to continue to create a great restaurant that will be remembered in our lifetime.”
